Music Therapy

Our relation with music and sound spans a long way back. From the time our brain evolved in a way that was able to process sounds, and serve as a channel to other states of awareness, music has been given great importance. The oldest musical instrument is 60 000 years old - a flute made of bone.

Music has been used in ceremonies and celebrations as well as to lullaby a child into sleep or to heal a patient’s mental illness. Recent and old studies have proved the use of music as a very effective tool in healing physical, mental, emotional and spiritual conditions as well as being pleasant to the patient. Research has found that when a subject listens to music that gives them the chills, it triggers a release of dopamine to the brain. Dopamine is a naturally occurring body chemical we receive as part of a reward system.

Other reactions also take place in the brain and body when listening to certain music but, there is something else to music, as if it was an element which is part of the human being but we know very little about. That mystery has been the object of research for many people around the world: scientists, medical practitioners; musicians; religious and spiritual people. All expecting to know more about the amazing effects music can have on a human being.

One of the main points of focus on music therapy is the emotional side of a person, and it is by being familiar with emotions and understanding them better that we can have a life free of unpleasant feelings and toxic behaviors which most of the times leads to disease and illness. Music and emotions is a relation that we make total sense of but we know very little of how to benefit from.

Music and Sound Therapies involve several techniques that support a person with their endeavor into healing or going through a difficult time. They are harmless but at the same time efficient with given proof throughout the years as to bring one person back into a coherent and harmonic state at physical, mental, emotional and spiritual level.
